Legal Help |
In September of 2007 I underwent spinal surgery at Salem Hospital while I was incarcerated. After my surgery I was moved to OSP Infirmary in Salem to receive IV antibiotics for 4 weeks. While in OSP Infirmary I started noticing a strange itching sensation during the shift of certain medical staff. I recognized this sensation as a hypersensitivity I have to the drug codeine.
One day I witnessed a nurse putting my medication in her lab coat pocket. I wrote an official ODOC grievance form complaining about her actions. Three nights later I awoke to someone pulling on my IV PICC line. Half asleep, I witnessed Nurse Tami insert a syringe full of red fluid into my PICC line. She injected it into my arm and followed it with two syringes of clear fluid. I know the fluid did not come from my body because of two reasons: 1. I saw her insert the syringe into the PICC line. 2. There was a crimp in the PICC line that would not allow the other nurses to withdraw blood from it. It worked fine for injecting but would collapse when suction was applied to it.
I filed another grievance concerning the injection of fluid. I was promised Nurse Tami would not be responsible for my health care again. Two weeks later, Nurse Tami was once again put in charge of administering my medications including the IV drip.
I have a full 3-page statement written that contains everything including dates and I also have copies of all DOC correspondence.
